From occupation to vocation
An occupation identifies work a person performs. A vocation describes a sustained calling they accept. Within the Nation, a priesthood is an organised and disciplined expression of a particular vocation.
The proposed definition
A priesthood is a recognised order within Priesthood Nation through which individuals commit themselves to a domain of human development, spiritual formation, restoration, creation or service, guided by a defined philosophy, body of knowledge, ethical responsibility and institutional discipline.
Recognition, not superiority
Belonging to a priesthood confers responsibilities within its work, not automatic superiority over those outside it. A priesthood should be able to explain its purpose, methods, accountability and contribution.
